why spiritual direction?

To help others learn to be quiet and still in order to experience God’s presence with them

Here in America we live in a “hurry culture” where we value moving fast, being efficient and getting things done. We don’t often slow by accident, but rather must be intentional in taking the time and space to do so. Even then, this slowing feels foreign and constricting. This is not what we have been trained for. We have been told to “hustle”, “produce” and “make deadlines.” So, when we decide to be intentional, to take time to slow and rest, it may not come naturally. We may need assistance. Why slow? Why rest? We desire to BE with Jesus. We want to experience Him and rest in Him.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
